WHAT IS FUNCTIONAL NUTRITION?
Functional Nutrition is what I practice: it is a system of healthcare that honors individual AND the whole person who is seeking health and remedy.
My goal is to get to know you and learn how your body is impacted by your personal history and methods of self-care. Laboratory results give me a good amount of information about your body; however, your signs, symptoms, your health history and your relationship to the story of your life are even better testing tools – they are brilliant!
WHY IS FUNCTIONAL NUTRITION IMPORTANT?
Functional Nutrition deals with how your body rids itself of toxins, how hormones and neurotransmitters regulate metabolism, how immune system is functioning, how your body responds to inflammation, deals with digestion and absorption of nutrients, the health of digestive tract, psychological and physical equilibrium, how you produce and spend energy.
My goal is to get to know your unique physiology before I recommend any specific way of eating (remember, one man’s food is someone else’s poison). Some “superfoods”, such as spirulina, quinoa, flax and hemp seeds, goji berries, chlorella, turmeric, green tea are considered as medicine but what if they do not work for you? This is where functional nutrition steps in to figure out what IS and what IS NOT good for you to eat or drink in order to get better.
NOTE: Functional Nutrition does not replace the need for appropriate medical diagnosis and treatment. If necessary, medical referrals will be recommended to rule out pathology and/or more serious conditions before receiving professional guidance in clinical nutrition.
